Red color in color palette of interior designer/ Красный цвет в палитре дизайнера интерьера
Let's go back to our previous theme concerned with color palette in interior design. I've already published three notes about achromatic colors including "Colorpalette of interior designer: let's say... white!", "Grey color ininterior designer color palette" and "Black color in color palette ofinterior designer". And now I’d like to take bright palette of colors. Let's start with bright red color, which tints are well known as cinnabar, blood red, cardinal red, turkey red, ruby-colored, damask rose color, scarlet, crimson, vermilion etc.
Sometimes working on interior we extremely need to add a significant red detail, a vigorous accent, something like conceptual extra-impulse for visual perception of interior. Red color is a powerful "weapon" to bring aesthetic pressure to a viewer. Inasmuch as red color (even if it's dark or deep or loosen red color) is too much intensive, active and invigorated for human visual perception. Human retina has its maximum sensitivity with red, green and blue spectral regions. Moreover red is very "data-intensive" for human mind. It associates with blood, flame, sun, terror, danger and menace, war, power, courage, strength of will, success, luck, energy, excitation and excitement, passion and love, craving, sexuality and eroticism, culmination, adrenaline, communism, flamenco, Colorado desert in North America and so on. And of course red is a "lust for life" and full of happiness. The red color corresponds to Mars - god of war and famous planet of Solar System. The Chinese red - a symbol of good luck, happiness, generosity, and Indians represent red color as life and action. Red color becomes a symbol and an integral element of cult icons of fashion like Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Elizabeth Taylor and so on. Red color hasb something in common with some famous enduring masterpieces of painting: portrait of Giotto di Bondone by Paolo Uccello (detail of Five Masters of the Florentine Renaissance), portrait of Federico da Montefeltro by Piero della Francesca, Jeronim Bosch and his images of Hell and "The Magician", "Field of Poppies" by Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse "The Dance", "The scream" by Edvard Munch, Andy Warhol and his self-Portrait in red tints, Kazimir Malevich (Russian artist) "Red Square" and "Hieratic Suprematist Cross", Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin (Russian artist) and his iconic work "Bathing of a Red Horse", Abram Arkhipov (Russian artist) "Woman in Red", "Red desert" by Michelangelo Antonioni, "Three Colors: Red" by Krzysztof Kieslowski, "The Hunt for Red October" by John McTiernan, "Wild Strawberries" by Ingmar Bergman, "Bella Figura" ballet by Boston Ballet's production etc.
But from time to time a lot of red color in interior is very heavy for onlookers. Hot components can stimulate violence, roughness and cruelty, fury and angry. Sometimes we use mass evident of red color in walls painting or wallpapers or carpets etc., sometimes we use delicate minor details like bright furniture or accessories. But always we have to work careful with red.
Let me demonstrate some beautiful pieses of red furniture and accesories among them Roche Bobois, Marcel Wanders, Boca Do Lobo, Bernhardt, Patricia Urquiola, Philippe Starck, Moroso, Moooi, yhh De Majo, Kartell, Finn Juhl, Collier Webb, Barovier&Toso etc.
